Lipstick Dupes : Dangers Of Chinese Fake Cosmetics

I recently watched a video on youtube where the vlogger knowingly bought Kylie Lip Kit Fakes on a site similar to ebay.   As she tried them on, she raved about them, but she also noted how they stung her lips.

What's scary is that she didn't find that odd or a red flag to stop using the product.  Sadly there are many people who think this is okay and they are perfectly safe to do.

However many companies as well as individual people have sent off various chinese dupes of many various types of well known brands off to independent labs for testing.  The results were not good and were down right scary at the number of ingredients that were found in these products that are quite frankly hazardous to your health.

There are also quite a number of reports of serious irritation after applying lip and mostly eye products.   Such as swelling, unusual unexpected tingling or stinging feelings.   Others experienced blurred vision after applying eyeshadow.  Others experienced chemical burns after using fake cosmetics from China.  You would think there would be more information out there but you need to look it up.  It also doesn't help that some beauty guru's purchase and suggest their followers save money and buy the...... for example fake naked eyeshadow palette instead of buying the real thing or even a dupe made by a well known brand that is safe to use.

There are still a lot of great reads out there if you are willing to do a search for them.
I made a quick google search of "Fake Chinese Cosmetics" and found these specific ingredients were found in independent lab findings.
Lead
Bacteria
Arsenic
E.Coli
Mercury
Cadmium
Cyanide
Aluminum
Rat Poop
Paint Stripper
Human Urine (Pee)
High Levels Of Heavy Metals

Just to name a few of them.  Do these sound like ingredients you want on your skin, let alone around your mouth or eyes?

There are many companies that are considered "drugstore" brands or mid-range that are coming out with dupes of the higher end, higher price tag cosmetics.

Some are more or less exact dupes color wise and others are exact in texture and function.  While others are close enough that can be enjoyed and would be hard pressed to notice the difference.   Other beauty guru's actually prefer the dupe to the higher end item for various reasons.

These are some pictures that I found on pinterest.  It gives you some ideas if you like the colors of the high end products that just don't fit in your budget.

Here are just a few affordable options... ... ...
There are plenty more out there if you just look for them.

There are so many great lipsticks out there, and when you think of how many drugstore companies are putting out dupes.  You can either select "dupes" of high end products, or you can just select lipstick colors in price ranges that you love and look good on you.  Rather than based on hoping to be noticed wearing a high end brand, knowing it's just a dupe.  Not all colors will look good on everyone.

Walmart FALL 2016 Older Age Beauty Box & A Couple Of Reviews

Walmart has their own beauty box if you didn't already know.   But they are only offered 4 times a year.  Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.   They are in the midst of their fall box.   When I found out about these myself it was when others were getting their boxes.  I signed up, but I had to wait until the next box to get my own box.

The good news is that they are only $5.00 which covers shipping, but I myself have found that getting the box is totally worth it.  It's filled with goodies that have a much higher value, in my opinion at least.

So far two have arrived at my house.  They come in two age groups, the younger and the older.....  The two previous boxes that came are the younger box and the one box that I got for the older age group arrived today.   While the two younger boxes were mostly the same, there were just a couple of differences.   You can find my review on the younger age boxes here.

As you can see in the above photo a little bit as it’s shown when I first opened the box.  One item is hidden beneath everything.   It’s a small sample packet of oil removing oil.  It is a nice sturdy box that is great for reusing with the lid attached.   You will see that in the other pictures as the pictures are taken of the items standing up inside the box showing the bottom side of the box lid.

If you want to subscribe and get your own Walmart Beauty Box you can click on the link here and sign up yourself to get in on the next box, of Winter products.

Dove Advanced Care Anti-Perspirant Deodorant
Cool Essentials 48 Hour
With Nutrium Moisture

I have been using on and off over the years.  It depends on what scent I am in the mood for when I buy it.  So I'm not a person who is hung up on specific brands for the deodorant that I use.  It's a .5 oz sample and when you roll the deo up it rises a bit more than a half inch, maybe closer to three quarters of an inch so the sample size is quite generous.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
No Added Scent ~ Unscented

This is a very generous 1 oz jar of cream that is quite lovely and feels very nice on the skin.   If you don't want to use this as a moisture, you could also use it as an oil based makeup remover just as our grandmothers once depended on cold cream and oil of olay to remove their makeup and moisturize.  It can be used just as you would use an oil or cold cream to remove makeup since it contains an oil.  It does contain petroleum and I know some people are against it, I do know quite a number of people that need this level of moisturizing cream in the winter months or for other skin conditions.

Burts Bees Cleansing Oil
With Coconut & Argan Oil.
Normal To Dry Skin

This is a smaller .16 oz sample, but definitely enough to cleans your face for one evening to remove your makeup.   Oil based cleansers do a very good job at removing makeup including waterproof makeup.  If you have oily skin please do not be afraid of using oil on your skin.   It has more benefits than you could imagine!

Colgate Optic White Platinum
High Impact White
Toothpaste

This is a full size tube containing 3.0 ounces by weight.  I've used this many times in the past and is actually one of the most common toothpastes that I buy.   I tend to rotate different brands just for variety or if I have coupons to use on another brand.   But I buy this one a bit more often.

Vaseline
Intensive Care
Advanced Repair
Unscented Lotion

Honestly i'm not a fan of these types of lotions.  To me they don't do much good containing so much water and glycerin.  Because of that they do feel watery to me and do not leave my skin feeling moisturized.  But instead dry and in need to apply more lotion.   I do make lotion from scratch and individual ingredients so I know how a good high end lotion is made and what it should feel like.  So these are just meh... to me.  However my daughter with very very sensitive skin does like this and it doesn't leave burning feeling on her skin.   However that is most likely because it doesn't have scent added.  So she will be using this up.  But I won't be rebuying it.  This is a 1 ounce tube of lotion.

Eucerin
Sensitive Skin Experts
Eczema Relief
Body Cream

This particular cream contains oatmeal as well as ceramide-3.  Enriched daily moisturizer clinically proven to fortify dry, itchy eczema prone skin.  My daughter has very sensitive skin and breaks out in a rash as well as her skin feels like it's burning with various skin care products.  So I am looking forward to see how this works for her.   As I wrote above I do make my own lotions, creams and other skin care products so I tend to avoid lotions that can be found at walmart.   But there is one or two that my daughter can use and likes that I picked up there in a pinch when I didn't have time to whip up a batch of my own for her.  This is a very small sample only containing .35 ounces or 10 grams.  That is about 2 teaspoons used for baking and cooking, rather than eating type teaspoon.

ROC
Multi-Correction 5 in 1
Chest, Neck & Face
Cream With Sunscreen

I'm really looking forward to trying out this sample of ROC Multi-Correction Cream that also contains SPF 30.  This is a very small sample at .17 ounces or 5 ml.  That's about 1 teaspoon measured with a baking cooking type spoon rather than the eating type.   Since it's a bit small I'm only going to use it on the chest area.

Last but not least.

Village Naturals Therapy.  Aches + Pains Muscle Relief.  This is a 2 ounce sample. This is a concentrated mineral bath soak.  Eucalyptus, Spearmint & Menthol Scented.   Looking at the ingredients I believe it to contain some essential oil, but it also says 'fragrance' so I know they have also added a fragrance oil that is lab made.

That is not a bad thing, in my opinion because I do make my own bath and body products and have sold for years and have well over 100 different scents in stock. It's most likely closer to 200 actually. BTW if you are thinking of making your own bath and body products please know there are FDA Laws that you need to follow in regards how the product is labeled.   And yes the FDA has gone after the small guy for improper labeling their products.  Just a warning because I see many selling without knowing there are federal laws that must be followed.  There are very specific information that must be on the label.   I'm only mentioning this here because so many people see, Oh bath salts, I can make and sell that without knowing they are actually breaking the law because I can guarantee it's not labeled correctly.  Just the same as food must be properly labeled so do bath and body products.   I'll get off my soap box right now.

My daughter tried out the sample that came in her box and loved it however she did use a 1 lb bag of epsom salt in her bath as well.  Which is actually closer to the optimal amount to add into your bath to get any benefits from the ingredients in the bath salts.  As someone who makes this type of product and sells it, I know the sample size isn't enough to be effective unless you are using it in a foot soak in a small basin and far less water..

The first 4 ingredients which make up the content are in names that are easy to understand rather than INIC names.  Basic Table Salt, Corn Starch, Sea Salt & Epsom Salt.  This is followed by the ingredients used to scent the product which is considerable smaller amounts.  Most likely around 3% to 5% total of all the scenting products that make up the total product.   This is the typical manufactures recommended amount for any essential oil or fragrance oil by weight.

It would make a wonderful gift for someone to make up a pretty gift basket to buy in a much larger bag at the store.   But I don't think I would be buying this myself just because plain Epson Salt is much cheaper that doesn't have any scent added and add 1-2 cups into your bath to get any effects from the ingredients.  I actually encourage my kids to use epsom salt soak in their baths because the benefits are wonderful for the body.   But this product has epson salt as the 4th ingredient and I could do without the first ingredient of basic table salt which can be drying to the skin.

Walmart FALL 2016 Younger Age Beauty Box & A Couple Of Reviews

Walmart has their own beauty box if you didn't already know.   But they are only offered 4 times a year.  Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.   They are in the midst of their fall box.   When I found out about these myself it was when others were getting their boxes.  I signed up, but I had to wait until the next box to get my own box.

So far two have arrived at my house.  They come in two age groups, the younger and the older.....  The two boxes that came are the younger box and while they were mostly the same, there were just a couple of differences, which I will get into as I write this.

As you can see in the above photo, the first item is on top of the box that it comes in.   It is a nice sturdy box that is great for reusing with the lid attached.   You will see that in the other pictures as the pictures are taken of the items standing up inside the box showing the bottom side of the box lid.

The first item above is a sample of  Village Naturals Therapy.  Aches + Pains Muscle Relief.  This is a 2 ounce sample. Dove Purely Pampering
Nourishing Body Wash
with Nutrium Moisture

Scented ~ Sweet Cream w/ Peony.

This smells amazing and I use dove body wash quite frequently.  I'm a sucker for ALL bath and body products, artisan or commercial made and available in stores.   This is a generous 1.8 ounce bottle. This exact product came in both my younger boxes.

This exact same product came in both of my younger boxes.

Biore' Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips
This contains a single nose strip.

I personally don't have an issue with blackheads on my nose so I don't use these myself.   But I did notice my son has a few, so guess what he is going to do this weekend?   But it's a great brand, but there are also DIY's that are a bit cheaper and work equally as well.   This also came in both of my boxes for the younger person.

Clean & Clear
Deep Action Shower Mask

Steam Activated Refreshing Deep Clean
This is a very generous 1 ounce sample size.

The writing on the back of the package for use and since I'm not familiar with this product I checked out Ulta to see if they had instructions for use.
http://www.ulta.com/deep-action-60-second-oil-free-shower-mask

"Dispense a quarter-size amount of the mask into your hand and apply an even layer all over your face. Leave on for 60 seconds, then scrub as you rinse off.

Precautions: Sunburn Alert: This product contains an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards."

Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Gummy Vitamins
With Biotin.

When my daughter opened these and said they were vitamins for your hair, nails and skin I knew right away it was a biotin product.   This was included in both of my younger boxes.

They taste okay, but I'm not sure a gummy is worth the extra cost when you can buy the tablets pretty cheaply and they are not an issue to take.  Unlike regular multi-vitamins that have a strong after taste.  So buying gummies I would save the extra cost for buying gummies instead of this one.

This is one of two products that were different between my two younger person's boxes.   My daughters box contains a similar small sample of Simple Micellar Water.  It didn't come in a regular bottle but one molded into plastic that fit into a flat sample similar to this one.

Last but not least, this is the last product inside the box.

Hello (brand) Toothpaste.
This also comes with a $1 off coupon plus a booklet that contains information about their products.  I thought that was very nice since this is a new brand, to me that is.   The tube contains .85 ounces and comes inside a box.

This is the second product out of two that were different in the two younger persons box that I subscribed to.   The other box contained a tube of  Burts Bees Lotion.  I believe it was from their more natural line.  I don't have the tube on me to go back to and type out the details.

Kindle Books For FREE

Ever since the kindle Fire came out I've been addicted.  I had two of the kindle non-fires what are they called white page kindles.    I've owned a number of them, and when a new one comes out, I sometimes have to upgrade.   But since I learned this trick I don't buy books very often.

I also take advantage of Kindle Unlimited.  For $9.99 a month, it's pretty much like having a library card.  You can check out 10 books at a time.  But then I like a lot of small how to, and advice type ebooks.    Which amounts to authors writing books based on google searches rather than actual experience or knowledge.   Some contain bad advice or wrong information.  But I still like them.

But there are also a lot of authors of actual books that are amazing and write just as well as well known authors.

Then there are ones that write a so called book that is more like a chapter and are selling their book chapter by chapter.   So buyer beware and always check out the number of pages in a book.   Some are what they call a novella and IMHO it's hard to write a book and get all the important parts the details in a book that short.   I tend to skip out on those.

I really use my kindle unlimited and when I find something that is important and I don't want to forget that I take a screenshot then crop the info that I wanted to keep rather than write it down. It's for my own information only, saved on my computer or kindle in a file that I can access when I am looking for particular information.  Or sometimes I save them to photobucket on a board that is private for my own use.  I also sometimes use word and paste the images into various titled pages that have specific titles so I can easily go back and find what I want.   No matter what, keep the info private for it's your own eyes and not shared with others.    It the same thing as taking notes, only much easier in a private way.   I guess you could also use blogger, making your whole blog private for your eyes only.  It's in the settings that you can do this.  Using labels so you can go back and find that information easier.   If you wish to publish your screenshot publically be sure you contact the author and ask permission first.   If you do not get a reply or are told no, then keep it private.

Anywho now back to how I get free books on amazon kindle.   I also like reading many types of books so when I find a book I want to read I save it to my watch list.   Each watch list will only hold 2500 items.   I keep my wish list to organize items.   For example this is how my books wish lists are organized
Books DIY
Books Romance
Books History
Books Kids
Books Fashion
Books Cosmetics

Then for non book items that I want to remember and maybe go back later and order.
Personal Makeup
Personal Mens Grooming
Personal Organizing
Kitchen Stuff
Household Items
Crafts Markers
Crafts Stamps
Crafts Punches
Crafts Silicone Molds

You get the idea.  Then I also have my Default List which is an organize later list.   I also have wishlist titled Order List.  I put items there that I am considering buying, or I want to compare a bit before deciding to place an order for one or the other.   It just makes it easier to find items.

When I find a book or item that sparks my interest I add it to the correct wishlist.

But for books, many authors offer their books for free from time to time for short periods of time. So by having them saved in a wishlist I can go back, change my settings from lowest to highest priced items and I can see the ones that are marked $0.00 and I click to buy that item.  Even if I know I won't be reading it now, or I may or may not like the book I still add it.   That way when it's free, I can buy it and should I ever want to go back and read it later, it's there.   If not, it's on the cloud waiting to download to my kindle at the click of a button.

Then at random I do searches for keywords that strike my interest.   Thus finding new books to add to my wish list.   I have bought hundreds of free books this way.

I also add them if they are not free, but offered using kindle unlimited.  Since I use that service I can easily find a book I want to read when I am in the mood to read a certain type of book.   Then I can check it out to read instead of buying it.  If I really liked the book I will leave it on my wishlist just in case it becomes free at some point.

I have a couple of thousand books on my cloud by using this technique.  But if I find a book I really want to read I do buy books from time to time.

But I should also add that I am not author specific, and only read new releases.  I actually prefer to select a book based on it's story line as I know the types of books that I prefer to read.

Some days I can find a dozen or more free books, other days it's just a couple, and other days it's none at all.

Since cloud is unlimited I just buy the book even if I am not sure I will like it or not.  Just because it's free and cloud is unlimited.

Give it a go and let me know what you think.......

9 Questions About Myself

not the best pict, but it's recent
I hadn't slept the night before so I had
been up for 2 days.  I look tired and was.

I enjoy reading these types of questions but I rarely respond to them.   I’m not sure why.   So I googled up a few questionnaires and selected a variety of questions of several to create my own.

If you're reading this, I would really enjoy if you would copy and paste the questions and answer them yourself.   I will make it easy, and at the very end I will have a list of just the questions to make it easy to copy and paste.

If you have a story that goes with the questions, please feel free to write about it.  That just makes it more interesting and more personal as well.   If you would rather not answer a question, feel free to leave it out.

If you want to add one of your own add that as well.   I do plan on reading all the answers but if you have your own would you please make it in its own post.    That way it will be easy to spot by myself and others.  And if you’re a guest reading feel free to answer that one as well.

Now onto random questions. . . . . . . . . .

1)  Do you untie your shoes before you take them off.
I actually prefer slip on shoes, just because it’s easier.   But also growing up in the tropics as a child/teen I was usually wearing some type of sandal or open shoe.    Especially when at guests houses for putting them back on.   The laces on my runners are just loose enough that I can slip them on and off with ease.

2) Do you still have your tonsils?
Nope I had them out when I was about 11~ish.   As usual my parents scheduled surgery not long before returning home from summer holiday in the states.   I had complications and they had to force my mouth open wider therefore post-surgery I could hardly open my mouth.   Least it wasn’t fun on the 3 day trek home, 12-hour long haul flight was a part of that hurting and could only eat soft foods and drink.   Nor did my parents order special meals on flights so I was out of luck most of the time.   It wasn’t till we were home in Indonesia awhile before I could even fit my pointer finger between my teeth.   That’s how far I could open my mouth.  (we lived as expats overseas for 10 years)

3) Can you drive a stick shift?
Actually I can.   I never drove overseas because we had a driver.   When we came back to the states on summer holiday we were always running here and there to visit friends, family or were on a real holiday to other countries or places.   So I never drove.  We returned to the states when I was 18, and my senior year of high school.  It never seemed odd to me that I never drove.  I either walked or I went with one of my parents (or another adult) that drove.   When my aunt found out she was furious with my parents (her sister) and immediately began my diving lessons in the country.   I went from living in a city of about 5 billion to a little town of 1,500 people.  My dad’s dream was to farm so he went from working for an oil company to farming.   I learned to drive a stick shift on a grain truck.   For my driver’s test I learned to parallel park between a combine and a grain truck.   I did have to parallel park for my driver’s test which I think was the last time I did that.

4) Do you like watching horror movies?
Nope I hate them with a passion.   Always have, however my teen, daughter loves them.  OMG she’s going to be a teen for 4 more days and then she will be 20.   That makes me feel old!

            5) What did you dream about last night?
I saw this question and I knew I had to answer it.   Since changing meds my dreams have been really weird and vivid.   However, for the life of me I can’t remember.   Plus my almost 16 year old son came in my room last night to ask if he could have a drink of my tea.   I keep a bottle of tea by my bedside.   Normally I am awake when he gets off work and last night I was tired so I crashed early.   It must have been some weird dream because I pointed at the wall behind my headboard and said “Drought Fairy”.   Repeating that a couple of times and went back to sleep.   I normally wake up when my kids or hubby wakes me, so last night was very strange.   It must have been a good dream…… I can’t imagine why though.

            6) What was the last thing you ate?
I was going to say a salad with grilled chicken, but then I remembered it wasn’t.   When my son got off work (about 10:30 pm) he brought home 2 cinnamon rolls, one for the each of us to share.   We watched an episode of Family Guy on Netflix and laughed…. And enjoyed our warmed cinnamon roll.   Love those moments with my kids.

7) What’s the worst TV commercial that you remember?
It was November of 2011 and I had been stuck in the hospital for pretty much all of October and pretty much all of November as well.   I will never forget that commercial for Kohl’s black Friday song.  Friday… Friday… Ugggg I was sick as a dog and then some.   Recovering from major surgery the very beginning of October.  I was home for less than a week the beginning of November, when my local hospital admitted me letting my doctor at the Mayo Clinic call the shots.  Then when he didn’t like the lab reports he told me local doctor to call life flight and send me back.   I was so sick of that commercial, I wasn’t feeling well to start with, required a few mini surgeries under general and for some reason that song drove me bonkers.   We ditched satellite and cable years ago only using Amazon, Netflix and Hulu at home so I wasn’t use to all the commercials either.

8) What’s Your Favorite Quote?
I have no idea if she really said this or not, but I saw it on a meme.  But it seems fitting that Diana, The People’s Princess would most certainly do if she could.   It’s one thing I believe in, and teach my kids to do.     “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectations of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”    I like to leave large tips when I eat out if I can afford it.   When I am shopping and the clerk hands me my receipt, I like to hand him or her a cash tip of their own.  Telling them it’s a holiday tip and to have a wonderful day with a big smile and dash out the door with my purchase.  Sometimes it’s just a $5 or $10 other times it’s more.  When I stay at a hotel I also leave a tip on the nightstand with a handwritten note letting them know it’s a tip and thank them for their hard work.   We’re not wealthy, but I would rather give directly to someone working hard and know where it’s going, than to a charity.   Most charities the money goes to admin fees or pay the high wages of those running the organization and very little actually goes to the cause.   Think about it, and maybe choose to do random acts of kindness instead or give directly to someone working hard.   There are so many options of giving locally and directly instead.

            9) An embarrassing moment?
The first thing that jumps to my mind is when I was about 10 or so.   We were on a return flight to the states for our yearly summer holiday.   We lived as expats overseas in Indonesia.  I felt rather grown up flying and tried to look nice, so this particular time and last time I ever wore a skirt flying, or flying into this particular airport.   We left Jakarta, and departed Singapore on our way to Tokyo Japan.   Back in the 1980’s Narita International Airport didn’t have many gates with a jet bridge to walk directly on and off the plane.   It had 1 gate that I remember that handled it’s flights where you had to walk down to the ground and out to a bus.  Then be bussed out to your plane.  Or if you just landed, a bus would return you back to where you needed to go.   Well we landed in Tokyo and as usual we were bussed back to the building and had a flight of steps to walk down to get down to the ground and get on the bus.   Just as I stepped on the ground from the steps a gust of wind came up and took my skirt up much higher than appropriate.   I doubt anyone noticed or if they did they didn’t show it.   Always listen to your mothers when they tell you to wear a slip as well.   There is a very good reason for slips, they protect your dignity when the wind blows your skirt up!

I’ll answer another round of 9 questions on another day.
I hope you take the time to reply with your own answers.

1)  Do you untie your shoes before you take them off?
2) Do you still have your tonsils?
3) Can you drive a stick shift?
4) Do you like watching horror movies?
5) What did you dream about last night?
6) What was the last thing you ate?
7) What’s the worst TV commercial that you remember?
8) What’s Your Favorite Quote?
